Three cherry blossom nights with five stacked offers

u/MightyBluff2 on r/ChaseSapphire, February 2026

Paid
$2,752.52 for 3 nights in peak cherry blossom season; 11,369 UR points at 1.65 cents brought it to $2,564.93, and the $300 annual travel credit, the $250 Edit and $250 IHG credits, and a $100 Chase Offers credit took off another $900
Points
Earned 8x on the $1,764.93 not covered by credits, or 14,120 UR; nothing was earned on the part covered by the travel, Edit and IHG credits, but the $100 Chase Offer still earned points. Since Edit bookings count for IHG points, they expected 32,770 with the Platinum status from the card
Booked
IHG's own prices for the same dates were $2,581 non-refundable without breakfast, $2,671 non-refundable with breakfast and $2,864 refundable with breakfast, so the Edit came in $111 under the closest match and added the $100 credit
Breakfast
Included for two each day; the hotel charges about $44 per adult and $16 for young children, and quoted 2,783 JPY a night for each child aged 6 to 12
Before arrival
Before booking they emailed the hotel about their two children; it confirmed under-13s stay free in existing beds, offers one free extra bed only in twin or suite rooms, and would apply IHG Platinum benefits to the Edit booking
Watch out
The $100 Chase Offers credit took over a week to post, the slowest of all the credits

Their take: They found it a beautiful hotel in a great spot with a very good breakfast buffet, and by their own math the stacked credits made it a better deal than booking with IHG directly.

Spring weekend with kids, booked with points boost

u/curiousAplaca22 on r/ChaseSapphire, April 2026

Paid
The Edit statement credit plus points boost, booked in the first week after the October launch
Check-in
Staff spoke good English and printed a personal Edit benefits letter showing the $100 credit converted to yen at that day's rate; nobody checked which card was used
Breakfast
Buffet with a wide choice, included for all three guests without them having to ask
$100 credit
Used for dinner at the hotel restaurant on the jet-lagged first night; they went a little over
Welcome
Mochi and chocolates
Upgrade
None, which they expected on a busy spring weekend
Late checkout
4pm, handy for keeping bags in the room before a midday Shinkansen
Room
The hotel sets up a sofa bed for kids if told ahead, for up to three guests
Watch out
Arriving from Haneda on the Keikyu line, reaching the hotel side of Shinagawa Station means paying ¥160 per person to pass through the JR gates until a new passageway opens; it caught them out on arrival, as the fare office does not take cards

Their take: A convenient, family-friendly base right on top of Shinagawa Station, with breakfast for everyone and the Edit perks handled smoothly; the only snags were no upgrade on a busy weekend and an awkward airport train transfer.

Booking tips from cardholders

  • This cardholder booked The Strings through the Edit at about the same price as booking direct, contrary to reports of heavy markups here.

    u/Jgoat55 on r/ChaseSapphire, May 2026. Read the thread ↗

  • They stacked the IHG credit with their Edit booking at The Strings and ended up with what they considered a very reasonable rate.

    u/Wise-Helicopter-2087 on r/ChaseSapphire, May 2026. Read the thread ↗

  • For April 9 to 12, they found the Edit price of $1996 slightly below the $2017 non-member rate on IHG's website for the same room with the same cancellation terms. In their checks, Edit prices follow the hotel's standard rate rather than member or promotional rates.

    u/gleam on r/ChaseSapphire, June 2025. Read the thread ↗

  • Their partner booked three nights here for mid-March on January 1. Being both on the Edit and an IHG property, the booking earned the $250 Edit credit and the $250 IHG credit, and both had posted within a few days.

    u/daneault23 on r/ChaseSapphire, January 2026. Read the thread ↗

  • They split 4 nights at about $400 a night into two bookings: one used both this year's Edit and IHG credits for $500 off two nights, and the other used last fall's Edit credit for $250 off. That left $850 for the 4 nights, and they count the $100 property credit as covering a dinner they would have paid for anyway.

    u/Ok-Calm-Narwhal on r/ChaseSapphire, February 2026. Read the thread ↗

Show 1 more tip
  • They booked a future stay here and received both the Edit credit and the IHG credit, $500 in all. The rate looked close to the direct price once free cancellation and breakfast were factored in, and they picked it over the Kimpton because it is closer to HND for a morning flight.
